Georgetown Christian Reformed Church

Love God, Love Each Other, Serve the World

ADULT

In addition to our worship services, there are many opportunities for spiritual growth at Georgetown. Primarily, we mature spiritually through the study of God's Word, which can happen through a variety of Bible study ministries. In addition, we also grow through fellowship when we can form friendships that provide us with support, encouragement, fun, and laughter.

Sunday Morning Bible Study Ministries

Commentary
Two thousand years ago, Jesus Christ delivered a series of timeless teachings found in Matthew 5-7 that introduced a radically different way of living - a life that reflects the values and principles of the kingdom of God. While the Sermon on the Mount is probably the best known of Jesus' teachings, it is arguably the least understood. Our morning messages for much of 2011-2012 will explore Jesus' call to Uncommon Living in these three chapters. After the service, 11:00-11:45 AM, you are invited to join Pastor Jack in the Sanctuary as he leads an informal discussion of the message. You are encouraged to ask questions, share thoughts, and explore this rich, practical teaching in greater depth.

Study of Elijah
Though Elijah was not of our time, James 5:17 says, "Elijah was a man just like us." This simple, rural man had no particular skills and no particular strengths. Yet he possessed an unshakable faith in the Lord of Israel anda  passion to serve Him. Explore the depths of Elijah's fascinating life and you will discover there is much to learn about Christian discipleship today. Ron Blouw leads this companion study to Pastor Jack's recent message series on Elijah. Men and women of all ages are invited to participate. This study meets on Sunday mornings from 11:00-11:45 in Lower Level Room L013.

Men's Life
This study meets every Sunday morning during the school year following the morning worship service from 11:00-11:45 AM in Lower Level Room L013. It is an informal group composed of men of all ages. This year, Men's Life will follow the life of Peter--an impetuous, rough young man who was called by Jesus to be his disciple. As we get to know Peter, we will have the opportunity to meet Christ whose love and power transformed the life of this fisherman from Galilee into a fisher of men.

Other Bible Study Ministries

L.I.F.E. Groups
All members are strongly encouraged to become a part of a L.I.F.E. Group (Living, Intimate, Faith, Experiences). Your primary spiritual care will happen in these small groups. We believe that our best hope for spiritual growth comes in a small accountability group where you will study the Bible together and prayerfully support one another. L.I.F.E. Groups are coordinated based on a variety of preferences including time, interests/hobbies, age, Bible study intensity, etc. We encourage L.I.F.E. Groups to invite non-Georgetown members into their groups, as a way to reach out to our friends and neighbors.

Approximately two-thirds of Georgetown's adult membership are involved in a small group for mutual care, study, prayer, and service. Each group sets its own agenda and meeting frequency. A discussion guide corresponding to the messages presented in worship in our year-long study of the Sermon on the Mount is made available on the second Sunday of every month. If you have questions concerning these groups or would like to become involved please contact Jeanne Kallemeyn.

Adults of All Ages (A.A.A.)
Although it is sometimes regarded as a "seniors group," all adults grown up but young at heart are invited. Sometimes studying, always fellowshipping, often eating, participants enjoy monthly activiites and excusions.

Ladies Christian Fellowship
All ladies of the church and their friends are welcome to attend this BIble study group that meets on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month at 7:30 PM in Lower Level Room L012. This year we will take part in a study of the last hours of Jesus' life and the amazing grace of God using He Chose the Nails, by Max Lucado, as a guide for reflection. The first class begins September 27.

Study of Genesis
Meeting on the first and third Monday of each month from 10:00-11:15 AM in Lower Level Room L011, Pastor Marc leads an in-depth study, reflection, and conversation on the last third of the book of Genesis. No previous participation with this class is necessary. Please bring a Bible, an open mind, and a willingness to learn and grow. The first class begins on Monday, September 19.

Men's Morning Bible Study of Romans
Martin Luther called Romans "the chief part of the New Testament and the very purist gospel." He believed that every Christian should "occupy himself with it every day, as the bread of his soul." Without a doubt, Romans is one of the most significant books of the Bible. Rom Blouw leads this expositional study for men of all ages which meets every Wednesday morning from 6:00-7:00 AM in the Lower Level Cafe. Coffee provided. This study begins October 12. (Note: From September 14-October 5, the study of the Gospel of John, which began last year, will be completed.)

Sisters In Spirit (SIS)
This Bible study ministry invites women of all ages to gather for study, prayer, and caring for each other. Offered several times each week, two studies will be offered this year. The fall study, Faithful, Abundant, True, focuses on God's faithfulness, his abundant provision, and his promises that are true. Weeks alternate between group discussion and video teaching by Beth Moore, Priscilla Shirer, and Kay Arthur. The winter/spring study, Ruth: Loss, Love, & Legacy, by Kelly Minter explores Ruth's journey of unbearable loss, redeeming love, and divine legacy.

There are several classes offered throughout the week, both daytime and evenings. The Friday morning session also has a Children's Ministry Program and nursery available. Classes start in the fall and usually run through Spring Break. If you have questions about scheduled meeting times, please contact the group's leader.

Fellowship Ministries
Various fellowship events are offered throughout the year. Some are church-wide and others focus on specific age groups. At these events, we get to meet new friends, get to know one another better, and enjoy the pleasure that comes from spending time with our church family.

JOY Team
The JOY Team provides a wide variety of events and activities for our whole church to enjoy. Some past events have included a Hostess Supper, Hospitality Nights (also known as Dinner Club), a church picnic, fellowship time after the services, and more. Watch for upcomng events and feel free to pass along fun ideas.
