Finding your way into a new church can be a daunting journey, whether you are coming as an individual or as a family.
We would like to give you some suggestions on how to find your way here at Georgetown. Our staff is also available to assist you, offer suggestions, and answer any questions that you may have. We are here to help make the transition into a new church enjoyable and fulfilling (whether you are visiting or a new member).
Initially, most people's journey into a new church begins by attending a worship service or two. There are some intuitive signals that tell you whether this is the right place for you or not. The worship style fits; there's a sense that people are happy to be there; the message is spiritually helpful; children enjoy the children's programs; you feel that this is a place where you can "fit in".
As you begin to think more seriously about being here, you may start to share about yourself and ask for more information or for a pastor to visit with you. You may also start to attend some of the ministries and programs that happen here in addition to the Sunday worship service. We understand that this is a process that varies in length for everyone. God has a place for you in His church. We want to assist you in any way that helps in your journey to find that place . We encourage you to contact any of the Ministry Directors if you have specific questions about a particular event or activity at Georgetown.
If you are a professing member in another Christian church, we invite you to have your membership records transferred to our church. You will be welcomed in a worship service when your membership papers are received.
Profession of Faith
If you are a new Christian, you will be coached by one of the pastors or a faith friend as to what it means to be a faithful follower of Jesus Christ. This may be one-on-one or in a small group. When you are ready, you will talk with the pastor and a church elder and share your understanding of what it means to be a Christian. You will then be able to publicly share your faith in a worship service.
Reaffirmation of Faith
If you have previously made Profession of Faith or been confirmed in another Christian church but have not been active in a church for some time, or if you believe that God is deepening His relationship with you in a significant way as you enter Georgetown Church, you will be invited to re-affirm your faith during a worship service. A pastor can talk with you more about this.
Growing Spiritually at Georgetown
You are strongly encouraged to become part of a Small Group. Your primary spiritual care will happen in these small groups. We believe that our best hope for spiritual growth comes in a small accountability group where you will study the Bible together and prayerfully support one another. Small Groups are coordinated based on a variety of preferences including time, interest/hobbies, age, Bible study intensity, etc.
Adult Education Opportunities
A variety of adult spiritual growth opportunities exist at Georgetown. You can learn more by visiting our Ministries page.
