Helping Opportunity – Clean UP Supplies
Feeding America (one of our ministry partners) has alerted us to an urgent need in the UP; the need is for dry out and clean up supplies in light of recent rains that have devastated parts of the Upper Peninsula. FEMA is assessing the Western UP after severe flooding this past week. Over 65 sinkholes throughout the Keweenaw Peninsula of Michigan are affecting transportation throughout the area. Governor Snyder has already declared a state of emergency.
In addition to sending two trucks per week with food to the UP, Feeding America will be sending clean up supplies on board their trucks. In light of this, during the month of July, we will be collecting the items listed above. Feeding America is thrilled that we are joining with them and have thanked us for being a “community that cares.”
Here is another opportunity to reach out and mobilize your neighbors, friends, coworkers, etc. to Help Us Help the UP. (Yes, think Houston 3.0, meaning, don’t do this alone, but invite others to help us do some helping.) Shopping carts will be available in the gathering area for the month of July. During the week, we will have shopping carts near the office for drop-offs. Bulk quantities will go to the garage at Micah’s house (our outreach house at the end of our main entrance). Questions? - Commercial food supplies for Volunteer Meals
